The Little Boy and the Monkey go Flying to Nanny's, by Magoo

One morning the little boy and the monkey woke up. The monkey did get in the car and the boy did get in and closed the door (large hand motions, door closing). And the boy did drive crazy. Then the monkey, the boy did sit on the monkey's lap. They did drive to the air-port. They walk and walk in the air-port and then walk down to the airplane. The monkey did drive the airplane, all crazy. Then they did land and then back up high in the sky. They did go to the air-port then to Nanny's car. The Little Boy sat on her lap and drove and the monkey sat on her lap too. Dee End. [Later] No not the end. They did drive to Nanny's and they put on their socks and shoes and helped her wash the pink blueberries. And the Monkey did eat the blueberries off the bush with his mouth.

First day of School

I'm standing in the kitchen scooping dinner intoa bowl and Magoo grabs my hands and says, "Can you do it like that." When I fold my hands together , not really knowing what he wants me to do, he also folds his hands and says, "for food, for play, for (something inaudible)." It takes me a second and I realize he's saying grace.

At dinner we ask him how his day was. He says "I played on the playground with my teachers. My class-room has a lide. I played in my class-room. I slept on my own cot-ton. I went to the bakery and had a lellow cookie and I finally finished it. And I had some milk." I asked if he had circle time, sat on a circle for songs. He said yes. I asked if he had a picture on his circle and what was the picture. He said it was of Kingswee. His teachers said he didn't like playing in the gym or the playground with the big kids, but they'll be gone next week. He ate well and had a great day in his classroom. What a full day! Don't they grow up too fast?

Lots of laughter

Magoo has the best laugh, he knows he forever has an audience in me, but once I hear that genuine laugh I can't help but laugh myself and then we both just get each other going. This is one of my favorite things in the world. I didn't come from a home with a lot of laughter, not that we don't have fun or enjoy things we do, but we never really laughed together and we certainly are not the joking type, though I certainly have always aspired to be. I absolutely love laughing with him this way and hope I can learn to let down my reserve a little and laugh and joke and play tricks on each other. I hope he is my funny bone.

Get Real

It's back to school already, and what was a clean house is already a disaster. How does it happen so fast? I could blame it on Magoo's fever on the first day of classes but the reality is it's me, just not a great or even good house keeper. I wonder, if it was a task that could be completed if I'd be better at it, but since house keeping is never ending I just get frustrated. One may never know.

In the meantime, I'll try to remind myself of what a terrific summer we have had and how much we've gotten done. Many trips and house projects complete and now we're working on landscaping too! Wow. Whenever I get down about the house or the school year I'll just remind myself of these things, I guess I'll have to call them a few of my favorite things. Here's a few from the summer.

This is My Life: Last Days of Summer

We've eaten just about every meal outside this week, despite even a few showers. It's been fun cramming everything into one more week. When I look back at this whole summer I can't believe what we've gotten in and that I could possibly be wishing for more!

Nanny came to visit and we took the boat out on the water, GKA got to fish, and loved every minute of pulling up the line time and time again.

We spent many mornings at Hok-si-la beach.

We had an absolutely wonderful trip to New Jersey to see Nanny. We hammered on a new dock, caught (and mostly scared) frogs-"leap froggy leap," swam in the pond, went to the zoo and the Philly Market, had sushi, and swam like nobody's business!
We spent some time with more friends at the Pizza Farm, camping at Frontenac, Clam Beach and tubing, with Oma, on picnics, with Grandma, grilling in the back with more friends! And just chill' with our friends!
